“Only God sees the sparrow fall, but even God doesn’t do anything about it.”
~ John Steinbeck, Winter of our Discontent
In the face of unrelenting human suffering and injustice it is tempting to take up Joel’s point of view in John Steinbeck’s novel, Winter of Our Discontent–and to give up, to quit, to surrender to cynicism and despair. However, the experience of God’s absence does not absolve us of the responsibility to bear witness to the mystery that “compassion is at the heart of reality.” Through stories, pictures, and sometimes prayer and poetry this blog joins the efforts made by people of faith everywhere to live into the reality that evil will not have the final word.
Thank you for your blog, and for your devotion to the cause: to seek justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God. Blessings!
Andy, Thank-you for your kind words.
Thank you for this and for you and for responding and giving space for more hope in this world of discontent. And thank you for encouraging me on my journey of hope and reconciliation.
